Hey there, my name is Kelsey and I started this blog to share my journey to becoming a millionaire, with the goal of helping more women take ownership over their personal finances and become rich and powerful in the process.
I’m a regular person with a 9 to 5 office job without any spectacular career or life achievements to date. Seriously, I am very boring. But, I did manage to wipe out $25k of student loan debt and build my net worth to over a million dollars by the age of 33. And if I did it, so can you.
I’m privileged and lucky in many ways, but my journey to financial independence is one of hard work and smart financial moves that I believe many other women are able to replicate if given the knowledge and confidence to do so. I also believe if you can see it, you can be it, and I’d like to be the example I needed when I was a naive 22 year old jobless college graduate with only $300 to my name and a giant student loan payment due right around the corner.
In my life, money has been an important tool that has brought me more power, security, and freedom, and I believe that can be the case for other women as well. Money gives you power. The power to leave a toxic relationship, to quit a terrible job, and to make investments in yourself and in your future so that you can live the life you want to live. Financial independence gives you the power to be free.
So much of the financial knowledge I’ve accumulated has come from men, through their books or their blogs, or even the men in my life who are much less reluctant to talk about money than many of my female friends or mentors. I am happy they were willing to share that knowledge with me, and I’m lucky to have been able to apply much of it successfully, but I don’t want that to be the case for the next generation of women who already have more financial confidence than ever. I want them to know that talking about money is not taboo, and that women don’t have to apologize for wanting to get paid. Good things happen when women have money, not just for ourselves, but for the rest of the world, too.
That’s what I want for this site. To create some good out there in the world by helping reframe the conversation about women and money, how we can continue to build our wealth, and how we can put our money to work for the things that we value. So that everyone can get used to seeing more madam millionaires.
By the way, just so we’re clear, when I say women, I’m usually referring to the experience I’ve had within that identity. But really, I mean all women+, whether you are a trans woman or non-binary, or live outside of the binary, or no matter how you identify. I’m limited in that I can only write about my experiences, but I hope everyone can find some wisdom on my site, no matter your gender identity or expression. At the very least, please know that everyone is welcome here.
Yours truly,
The Madam Millionaire
